The trend in the price of oil in recent months; the prospect of transition to a decarbonised economy in the medium to long term; the commitment made by President Tokayev last November for a "zero carbon" Kazakhstan by 2060: all these factors impose resolute actions to diversify the sources of energy production of a country – Kazakhstan – which ranks among the largest hydrocarbon exporters in the world. The agricultural supply chain and the processing industry of agricultural products represent two of the main sectors in which Kazakhstan aims to invest heavily in the coming years, also with a view to gradually reducing the economy's dependence on the mining and quarrying sector. FAO listed the country as one of the five states with the greatest potential for agricultural development, also in consideration of the strong growth in agricultural production and investments in the sector in 2020. What is Kazakhstan's real potential in agriculture and related sectors, and what are the conditions for developing it?
